That’s why we have provided a description of one of our more common treatments, dental crowns, and just a few reasons why this treatment may be utilized.
What Is a Dental Crown?
A crown, also known as a cap, is a tooth-shaped object created to fully cover your natural tooth and restore its size, strength and general shape. When a crown is put in place, none of your natural tooth will be visible. Crowns are constructed from a variety of materials, but the most popular and effective color matching material used is porcelain.
Why Would I Need A Crown?
Crowns have a wide variety of uses and functions, some of which are:
· Protecting decayed teeth from breaking
· Protecting a cracked tooth or filling and holding the pieces together
· Improving the cosmetic look of a tooth
· For teeth that need a root canal
· To replace a large filling
What Does Getting A Crown Involve?
If your Pensacola dentist has determined that a crown is the best course of action for your circumstance, we will schedule two appointments to move forward. During your first appointment, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and bite in order to create a temporary crown that will fit correctly in your mouth. This mold will also be sent to a dental laboratory for the fabrication of your permanent crown. Your tooth will be numbed, have any decay removed and properly shaped. Then a temporary crown will be placed while we wait for the permanent crown to be created and sent back.
During your second appointment, the permanent crown will be placed and your mouth will be examined for correct spacing and bite.
