Your Pensacola, FL Family Dentist
At Spanish Trail Dentistry, we strive to provide high quality dental care in a fun, friendly, and relaxed office environment. Dr. Strickland and our dedicated team of highly trained orthodontic specialists work hard to treat every patient as an individual, managing their treatment holistically to help them achieve optimal overall dental health. While a lot of our work concentrates on keeping teeth clean, sometimes it's best to replace teeth altogether - and that's where prosthodontics can help.
Dentures & Partial Dentures
A denture is a removable dental appliance that acts as a replacement to missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They're custom manufactured to match your unique smile - and in many cases, they leave you looking better than ever before.
Dentures come in two main varieties - complete and partial. Complete dentures are use when all teeth are missing, recreating the entirety of a person's smile. Partial dentures help replace parts of the smile when only some teeth are absent. In addition to replacing teeth for aesthetic purposes, partial dentures also prevent other teeth from shifting, preserving the integrity and function of a patient's smile. In either case, they are durable, long-lasting appliances that last many years, although we'll need to make adjustments and repairs periodically as they wear.
We can provide either 'conventional' or 'immediate' dentures depending on patient preference and the situation. Conventional dentures are created after teeth have been removed and the healing process has completed, which generally takes around 4 to 6 weeks. During the waiting period, patients go without teeth - but trust us, it's not as bad as it sounds! Immediate dentures, on the other hand, are made in advance and placed immediately after teeth are removed. While this prevents the patient from going without teeth, it means that once the gums have healed up, we'll need to make adjustments and potentially create a new set of dentures.
How Dentures Can Help:
· Enhance the smile and mouth.
· Improve speech, chewing, and digestion.
· Complete Denture: Used when all teeth in an arch are missing.
· Partial Denture: Used when some teeth in an arch are missing.
To get dentures, you'll need to come in for several appointments over the course of a few weeks. We'll first take detailed impressions (molds) and measurements of your teeth to custom-manufacture them, then we'll have a few adjustment appointments where you'll try them on so we can fine tune their shape, fit, and color. Finally, we'll place the finished denture, giving you a complete, beautiful, natural-looking smile!
Once you're wearing them, you may experience a bit of an adjustment period - you may experience excess salivation, some soreness, and a bit of difficulty talking and chewing. This is normal, and as your muscles and tissues adjust, these symptoms will fade. At your fitting appointment, we'll give you detailed instructions for wearing and caring for your new dentures.
